5 new K-pop releases, 5 different ways to build a comeback
Not every music release serves the same purpose. Some open a new era, others expand an existing album, while others prepare listeners for what comes next.
September 28 brings together five very different projects: ALLDAY PROJECT’s CRASH, BOYNEXTDOOR’s HOME: DELUXE, MINZY’s Calling, NiziU’s Sour Grapes and KickFlip’s Puzzle Piece.
The distinction matters. Four projects arrive today in full, while September 28 marks only the first stage of KickFlip’s KICK OFF THE WALL Pt. 1 rollout.
The complete mini album is scheduled for October 6. Rather than a ranking, this selection offers a snapshot of how contemporary Asian pop structures anticipation around music.
ALLDAY PROJECT - CRASH
CRASH is ALLDAY PROJECT’s second EP, arriving a little over a year after the co-ed group’s debut under THEBLACKLABEL. Its title track shares the album’s name, turning the release into a compact statement built around a single title and visual identity.
The project is also notable because it strengthens a format that remains uncommon in today’s Korean idol landscape. The members’ different backgrounds continue to make the group immediately recognisable, but CRASH is above all the moment when that initial curiosity must develop into a sustainable musical direction.
BOYNEXTDOOR - HOME: DELUXE
HOME: DELUXE is the repackaged edition of BOYNEXTDOOR’s first studio album HOME. Led by ANIMAL, it adds new material to an existing project and extends its narrative instead of replacing it.
The announced tracklist includes new additions such as ANIMAL and CLICHE, alongside songs already connected to the group’s history, including 400 Years. Jaehyun, Taesan and Woonhak are credited on the lead track, while ZICO contributed to its production. The repackage captures BOYNEXTDOOR moving further from the bright image of their early releases and reinforcing the more assertive direction introduced by HOME.
MINZY - Calling
Calling marks MINZY’s solo return with a new single. On a day dominated by groups and mini albums, her release changes the rhythm of the selection: this is not a project expanded through multiple versions and weeks of content, but a song centred on an already recognisable voice and identity.
Every new MINZY release inevitably exists alongside her history with 2NE1. Calling can also be approached as part of the artist’s continuing effort to define a personal space, separate from but not opposed to the group.
NiziU - Sour Grapes
Sour Grapes is NiziU’s first Korean mini album. It is a meaningful step for a group formed through a partnership between JYP Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment Japan and developed primarily within the Japanese market.
NiziU had already made their official Korean debut, but a full Korean EP gives that presence greater continuity.
The grape-centred visual campaign and multiple physical editions also show a project designed to remain recognisable across both markets without erasing the identity built in Japan. Rather than a simple “move into K-pop,” Sour Grapes follows a group attempting to operate consistently between two neighbouring but distinct industries.
KickFlip - Puzzle Piece
KickFlip release Puzzle Piece today, not the complete KICK OFF THE WALL Pt. 1. The track opens the group’s new promotional cycle, while the fifth mini album is scheduled for October 6 together with its second title track.
This early release demonstrates how the calendar itself has become part of comeback storytelling. A video and single can introduce a project’s language more than a week before the album, spreading attention across several moments. KickFlip therefore belong in today’s release roundup only when Puzzle Piece is correctly identified as a pre-release.
Five releases, five strategies
Placed side by side, these projects show five different ways to occupy the same release day: consolidating a young group’s identity, extending an album’s lifespan, reaffirming a solo career, strengthening a bridge between Japan and Korea, or beginning a rollout that will be completed later.
The result is more than a crowded Monday.
