Li Yitong leads a story of marriage, financial control and female autonomy, premiering on Tencent Video on 9 October

What happens when the promise of a perfect life is revealed to be a trap designed by the person who was supposed to protect you?

That question drives The Vanishing Beauty, the international title of 《美人余》, Mei Ren Yu. The drama premieres in China on Tencent Video on 9 October 2026 before joining Dragon TV’s evening schedule on 10 October.

Promotional materials frame it as an urban female ensemble drama that uses the mechanics of revenge to examine marriage, family wealth and autonomy. Whether the series can develop those themes beyond the genre’s familiar patterns remains to be seen, but its starting point deserves attention.

The Vanishing Beauty and financial control within marriage

Yu Meng appears to possess the life many people around her would consider ideal. She is a popular content creator, the only daughter of an affluent family from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, and seemingly enjoys a happy marriage to Di Liren.

Around their fifth anniversary, that image begins to fracture. The discovery of a deception reveals that her husband is not the person she believed him to be. At stake is not only the trust built during their relationship, but control over her family’s assets.

Chinese promotional language uses the expression chi juehu, a term connected to the patriarchal idea of financially exploiting a family without a male heir. Yu Meng’s position as an only daughter is therefore not a minor biographical detail. It becomes the condition around which others attempt to exercise power over her.

She must reconstruct what happened, gather evidence and reclaim control over her life. Revenge, at least in the premise, becomes a process of emotional and financial emancipation. The international WeTV synopsis confirms this narrative structure.

Li Yitong at the centre of the transformation

Li Yitong plays Yu Meng, a woman forced to reconsider both her marriage and the image she had built of her own life.

The most interesting transition should not simply be from victim to avenger. The drama will need to show the loss of trust and her gradual understanding of the legal, economic and personal mechanisms that made the deception possible.

The risk is reducing that transformation to plot twists and moments of retaliation. A more ambitious approach would present autonomy as something recovered slowly. The posters and trailers repeatedly contrast the perfect life perceived by others with the reality Yu Meng discovers behind its surface.

The Vanishing Beauty cast and characters

Wang Jiajia plays Lu Hui, a figure within the family and personal network surrounding Yu Meng. Chang Huasen appears as Jiao Xu, a divorce lawyer who helps the protagonist turn suspicion into evidence and strategy. Zeng Mengxue plays Liu Zi and is credited alongside the other three performers as one of the series’ leads.

Qiao Zhenyu takes the decisive role of Di Liren, Yu Meng’s husband and the centre of the marital crisis. The wider cast also includes Peter Ho, Cheng Hongxin, Zhou Dawei, Huo Qing, Wu Yufang, Yi Mengling and Ma Wenyuan.

The series is directed by Wang Ying and Wu Huihui and written by Zhang Jia. Produced by Tencent Video with Haohan Entertainment, it is adapted from Yi Bei’s novel of the same name.

When revenge becomes autonomy

The Vanishing Beauty begins with familiar ingredients: a deceptive marriage, a betrayed protagonist and the preparation of her response. The premise becomes more compelling when revenge stops being only a form of punishment.

Marriage appears as a space in which affection and control can become difficult to separate, while money functions as one of the tools used to limit Yu Meng’s freedom. Her public image matters too: being described as a fortunate woman helps conceal the power imbalance within the relationship.

Yu Meng must therefore do more than expose the people who attempted to deceive her. She must separate what she genuinely wants from the identity constructed for her by marriage, family expectations and the gaze of others.

What to watch in the opening episodes

The first question concerns tone. Will The Vanishing Beauty favour the tension of a domestic thriller, the emotional intensity of family melodrama or the immediate satisfaction associated with revenge dramas?

The treatment of financial control will matter as well. If family wealth remains only a trigger for revenge, the plot may become predictable. If the series shows how money, marriage and dependency reinforce one another, Yu Meng’s vulnerability will gain greater depth.

Its ensemble dimension is another point to watch. Publicity describes the project as an urban female drama. The opening episodes must demonstrate whether Lu Hui and Liu Zi possess independent perspectives or primarily function as allies and obstacles within Yu Meng’s journey.

Where to watch The Vanishing Beauty

The Vanishing Beauty premieres on Tencent Video on 9 October 2026. It will also begin airing on Dragon TV at 7:30 PM China time on 10 October.

The international WeTV page is already online and lists a total of 28 episodes. A global listing does not necessarily guarantee that episodes and subtitles will become available simultaneously in every territory, so regional access should be checked directly on the platform from 9 October.

For now, The Vanishing Beauty appears to offer more than a straightforward revenge fantasy. The central question is not only how Yu Meng responds to betrayal, but which part of her own life she discovers she never truly controlled. That recognition may prove more important than the punishment of her husband.
