She Her Her Hers: music as the space between words

There's a phrase Hiroyasu Takahashi, guitarist and sound designer of She Her Her Hers, uses to describe his relationship with music: creating ambiguity and space.
Not messages, not statements. Space.
It's probably the most honest description of what this Tokyo band actually does, moving between post-rock, electronics, and something that's hard to name. And maybe that's exactly the point.
She Her Her Hers don't make music to explain. They make it to hold what words can't.
We met them a few months before the announcement of their first European tour, scheduled for September.

Sound, silence, and everything that can't be said
A question we often ask artists on CZMOS: is there something music has allowed you to say that you wouldn't have been able to express in everyday life?
Hiroyasu: I mainly handle the sonic and melodic side. Rather than conveying a clear, precise message, I think the beauty of music lies in being able to create ambiguity and space, allowing listeners to directly feel those sensations that simply can't become words.
Many people listen to music for comfort. Do you write songs to comfort people, or to make them feel something they were avoiding?
Tomasong: We don't intend to impose any kind of "awakening" on anyone. But when we write about those moments when we ourselves had to face emotions we were avoiding, that experience can naturally resonate with someone else.
For someone listening to She Her Her Hers for the first time, which track would you recommend as an entry point into your world?
Taiki: It depends on your mood. If you want tension and a harder atmosphere: Thristy, Brutalist. If you want to chill: drip, spiral, Arrows. If you want to dance: CHELSEA, Bystanders, non zero sum game. If you're cooking or working: honestly we'd recommend almost the entire catalog. If you want something dope and deep: DayTripper, ignorant. The most listened to track is Episode33. All the members genuinely love every single song, so just explore and listen to whatever feels right, however you want.
You're preparing for a European tour. What are you most curious about when it comes to sharing your music with a European audience?
Taiki: This tour will be our introduction to Europe, so we want to bring a performance that truly reaches all five senses of everyone in the venues. It's incredibly exciting, and we're completely focused on that. In the meantime I'm already picturing the toasts in every country we'll visit. I really can't wait.
If someone listened to She Her Her Hers ten years from now, what do you think they'd hear in your music?
Tomasong: We want to create music that doesn't age, something timeless. At the same time, there are things we can only create right now, in this moment. So we hope our music manages to capture both the rapidly changing world and the humanity of the people living inside it.
When you listen back to your older songs, do you hear them as memories or as earlier versions of yourselves?
Hiroyasu: Since we released location, I've gone through a lot of changes in my life. When I listen back to the older pieces, I hear them more as memories. Many of our songs are about looking inward and facing yourself, and the landscapes and emotions from when we played them in different places naturally resurface.

September, Europe, and a toast in every city
In September, She Her Her Hers will bring this sonic world to Europe for the first time. Not as a band looking for validation, but as one that shows up without filters, trusting, as always, the space between the notes. Taiki said it clearly: they want to reach all five senses. Those who are in the venues will understand.
