With “Angel Eyes”, the talented singer and musician Niia returns today with a moving new interpretation of the iconic 1946 jazz standard. Released by Candid Records, the track is produced by Spencer Zahn and features Benjamin Bock on keys.
It’s a return to her roots—without nostalgia. With a background in classical piano and jazz vocals, Niia revisits one of the songs that has inspired her since childhood.
“This song is a return to what shaped me—a way to reconnect with the music that has always been my true passion.”
“Angel Eyes Niia”, written by Matt Dennis & Earl B. Brent, has been performed by jazz giants like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, but it’s Chet Baker’s cool jazz version that remains a deep emotional and stylistic landmark for Niia.
Her new rendition—produced by Zahn, known for his elegant, ambient approach (including Pigments with Dawn Richards)—is stripped-back, essential, and deeply personal.
The result? A song that feels both refined and vulnerable, where slow phrasing, subtle vibrato, and soft reharmonization carry Angel Eyes into a new dimension: that of a modern jazz vocalist who sings pain without sentimentality, turning it into art.
The release is accompanied by a music video directed by Dimitri Basil, conceived by Niia herself. Set in the historic Dresden Lounge in Los Angeles, the video evokes the surreal tones of David Lynch and the cinematic flair of Tarantino, introducing a cast of enigmatic characters in a noir, aesthetic, and disorienting visual narrative.A vision that captivates and leaves questions hanging in the air: where is this story taking us?
