After releasing the first two singles Cattedrali and Resistenza, Italian singer-songwriter wowdrugo continues his independent journey with “Pao Pao”, available from Today on all digital platforms.
The track is the latest preview of Belvedere sullo spazio, the artist’s debut album expected in the coming months.
The title Pao Pao is an acronym referring to Picchetto Armato Ordinario, a military unit used during Italy’s former mandatory military service for surveillance and emergency intervention within barracks or public spaces. The song also draws inspiration from the novel of the same name by Pier Vittorio Tondelli, where the stories of young soldiers become a lens to explore the tension between youth vulnerability and vitality.
“I never thought I would empathize so deeply with a world so distant from mine. It talks about boredom, vulnerability, young people like ‘cut plants’ taken from their garden and forced into constant relocation, searching for a place and watching life as if someone else were living it instead of us,” says wowdrugo.
Through natural imagery and reflections on the restless movement of those searching for their place in the world, Pao Pao explores the constant noise surrounding us and the need to slow down in order to rediscover the meaning of movement and human connection.
With this release, wowdrugo continues building a poetic and metaphorical narrative that gives voice to a more reflective and conscious generation — one that moves against the speed of the present.
As already hinted in the previous single Resistenza, the message remains one of hope: change is possible, and sensitivity is not weakness but the spark from which to begin again.
